New Additions

As most of you know I LOVE animals, probably even more than I love most people. Well, sitting in my windowless classroom all day without any of my pets around has been tough, so tough in fact, that I decided I couldn't take it any longer and I bought myself a class pet. I went to Petsmart with Sam and bought the fattest little Russian hamster I could find. I had my students choose a name for her and after two days of arguing with each other they came up with Bella Babushka. I think it is very fitting. She is probably the most popluar thing at Flowing Wells Junior High. Teachers, principals, and students all come to visit her. She rolls around my classroom in her ball and is constantly getting little gifts from my eighth graders.

Our next addition is considerably larger than the first. We went from Bella, who weighs maybe 2 or 3 ounces, to Bailey, who weighs 140 pounds. We were very upset when our first Great Dane, Emily, died of kidney failure a few years ago and Josh has been looking for a new one ever since. It was a big surprise when Josh's mom called one night and told use about a Great Dane who was in need of a home. Josh fell in love with him the moment he saw him so we took him home. Lizzy loves him and often shares a bed with him when it is cold but Emerson is still a little standoffish. However, I did catch them playing together this afternoon, so maybe the little guy is starting to warm up to the idea of having a giant friend.
