Labor Day was a welcomed day off from school. I know Lillian was only in school for a month before Labor Day but it seriously felt like way longer than that, like 6 months longer. We spent the day swimming, barbecuing, and hanging out at the rodeo. With the exception of Josh being at work, it was pretty much a perfect day.
For the past 5 and half years I haven't really made much of a distinction between the days of the week other than we go to church on Sunday. Now that Lillian is in school the weekends mean so much more and are about 2 days too short. We are all excited when Friday rolls around. We spent many Friday nights swimming with friends, ushering in the weekend.
Because Lillian misses out on all the fun stuff we do during the week, I try to plan something fun for her on Saturdays. Her favorite thing to do is spend time with her cousins.
We were glad they were able to come with us to see The Little Mermaid Broadway show. This was the first musical of this caliber that my girls have seen. They enjoyed it and the experience made me excited for many more musical experiences.
When Sunday evening rolls around I am always a little glum. I remember feeling that way when I was teaching, just dreading Monday. We miss Lillian but I shouldn't complain too much. I mean, I do get to hang out with Freya all day and we have adventures of our own. Who wouldn't be super stoked to walk around Walmart with a unicorn?
And have the best helper in all the land?
We try to fit in some friend time at least once a week. It has been fun to watch Freya make her own group of friends. Like Lillian, she is often the leader of the pack.
Freya and I got a peek in to Lillian's Kindergarten world this month when we went to help out at her Johnny Appleseed Day celebration. Freya was ready because she had already learned about Johnny Appleseed during toddler time at the library.
All the kids in Lillian's class were kind to Freya and let her join in the fun. Lillian was a great big sister and helped Freya win at the game Apple Apple Worm (think Duck Duck Goose) by propelling Freya forward and body blocking her from the person chasing her.
They got their face painted with apples and worms
and bowled for apples.
Freya was great at retrieving the apples that rolled down the hill.
They pinned the worm in the hole,
met Johnny Appleseed,
and bobbed for apples as well.
It was a fun day and I am glad they were able to spend some time together. The hours between the end of the school day and bedtime seem so short. I try to make sure they have time to goof around together for a little while.
Fall soccer started in September. It is Freya's first season playing and Lillian's first since she broke her arm. They are both on the Pirates team, just in different age groups. Somehow I was roped in to being the assistant coach. It is a good learning experience for me. However, it just makes the days speed by even faster!
Freya seems so tiny on the field. She is learning that there is no crying in soccer and that she has to actually run if she wants to kick the ball, not walk. I am pretty sure she only plays for the snacks at the end of every game.
Lillian is learning about hard work, something she does not yet enjoy. Even though it sometimes seems like she hates it, she tells me she has fun and wants to continue playing. When she is trying she is actually pretty good at it.
And finally, in the middle of all the busyness and caos, Josh and I were able to go on a date for the first time since June. We went to the Tucson Temple and had a lovely evening. I think it was the only time in September when time wasn't going by at warp speed.
October is always a crazy month full of fun and surprises. The camera roll on my phone is already plum full of eye candy and we aren't even half way in to the month. I feel like a cartoon character whose legs are spinning beneath them because they are running so fast. Before I know it Christmas will be here and, as usual, I will have zero presents bought. Oh well! I always tell myself "I'll look back on this and smile because it was life and I decided to live it."
