Girl's Camp

On my last day of school the second counselor in the bishopric stopped by to bestow upon me the calling of Assistant Girl's Camp Director. When he asked me I must admit I felt my heart plummet to the floor. "Camp director?" I thought. " I've been 'directing' adolescent kids for 10 months. Can I handle another week?" Then he dropped the real bomb, "Its next week." "WHAT?! NEXT WEEK? LIKE NEXT NEXT WEEK?!"
Thank goodness I was assistant to an amazing woman, Peggy Payne, who quickly chased away all my fears and replaced them with excitement. Together we set out and were able to pull off a fabulous girl's camp. It was an amazing week, a week I wouldn't trade for anything. The girl's were amazing and they helped to strengthen my testimony a great deal. I am already looking forward to next year and all the planning I get to do with Peggy. I think we make a great team. She is a bubbly, outgoing, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kinda girl and I am a shy workaholic, we did great.
Our ward theme was "Step into your Greatness". Each evening we planned an activity that helped the girl's realize how great they really are. We focused on battling the limited definition of beauty women learn from the media and expanding it to include all women regardless of their size, shape, color or talents.

By the end of camp we were a tight knit little family that was ready to go out and meet the challenges of the world.

We weren't serious the whole time. In fact, we spent most of our time laughing and goofing around.

The silly camp songs we sang aided in our goofiness.

We did lots of different crafts...

I learned to cook on a camp stove...

We cleaned the biffies...

And battled giant spiders.

I really did enjoy myself and I am so thankful for the opportunity to get to know Peggy and spend a week with an amazing group of girls.
