For the past 3 weeks I have been competing out at the Pima County Fairgrounds on my horse Bachelor. After being State Champ in the Equitation Division 2 years in a row we decided to try something new so we graduated to the 3'6" Amature Owner Hunter Division. This division is VERY competitive. This division is judged on the horse alone so it is the rider's job to help the horse jump its best. Now that is not as easy as it may sound especially when you are riding a tried and true Equitation horse! We rode against several nationally acclaimed horses and riders but am happy to say were always in the top 5. I was even Reserve Champion one week.
Everything was going smoothly until yesterday. My first round was beautiful and I was feeling confident and ready to roll. I entered the ring for my second round, jumped the first jump right out of stride and cantered around to the line in front of the judges booth. It was an offset line that needed to be done in 5 strides. Well, to make a long story short I messed up the distance to the second part of the line and we went crashing through a 3'6" oxer and booth of us flipped head over heels. As soon as I hit I jumped up and turned to Bachelor who was tangled on the ground. His neck was cranked to the right and when I saw the fear in his eyes I was sure he had a broken neck. I quickly untangled him and helped him to his feet. By that time the EMTs and the vet were there. It turns out I broke my collar bone and Bachelor is fine. It was a very frightening experience but not one that will keep us down for long!

Oh Ry! That is so scary! I'm so sorry that happened. I hope you aren't in too much pain and that your horse is okay. I'm sure you'll recover quickly because you're in such good shape. I'm glad you're going to get right back on the horse! If you need anything we're here for you guys. Take care, Ky
Wow that is scary! Austin broke his collarbone a while back and he had a miserable time sleeping. I hope you are having an easier time sleeping--it was terrible feeling him toss and turn all night long. I am glad Bachelor was okay that would have been devastating!
