March is extra special to me because it is the month in which we celebrate Lillian's birthday. Before we get in to all of the birthday shenanigans though, we have to talk about all the adventures that happened before.
First, we went to Logan, Utah to visit family and help with Theater Night at Uinta Academy. It is always an adventure flying solo with these two lovely ladies, especially when you had to wake them up at 4:00 AM to get to your flight on time!
The theme for Theater Night revolved around mysteries and detectives. Lillian and Freya helped us solve a few mysteries while we prepared for the big night.
Auntie Sam wasn't able to make it to Tucson to celebrate Lillian's birthday so she gave Lillian her gift while we were in Utah, an Easy Bake Oven. Lillian had a good time making teeny tiny food in her teeny tiny oven. She took baking very seriously.
While in Logan, and once we returned home, we got in lots of time with cousins.
We also went to the zoo and took Lillian's play group on a tour of Josh's fire station.
We got in some good quality sister time as well. Some days Lillian can't stand being a big sister and other days she loves it.
She *sometimes* shares with Freya.
She holds her little sister's hand.
She plays with her at the park.
She helps me get her ready to go.
And she shares the wonders of the world with her.
I love watching their relationship develop. Freya is always so happy to see Lillian and loves to watch her play. Often times, Lillian spends most of the morning checking the video monitor to see if Freya is awake. Once she sees Freya move, even slightly, she rushes in to her room, climbs in to her crib, and reads her stories.
Now for the moment you have all been waiting for...Lillian's Third Birthday Party Extravaganza! We had her party on Saturday, March 21 in downtown Tucson. It was Cinderella themed and we invited her many friends. I got her dressed in her Cinderella best.
The Fairy Godmother read everyone the story of Cinderella.
The Cinderellas and Prince Charmings practiced using their magic wands.
They attended the Ball.
Cleaned up the castle.
Pinned the glass slipper on Cinderella and then...
they screamed with joy when Cinderella arrived in her carriage!
Lillian rode in the carriage at least 5 times before finally getting out to take photos and eat her magic fruit wands and tiara PB and J sandwiches.
Grandma Jean made her a cake befitting a princess.
We sang happy birthday and then opened gifts.
When we got home she refused to take off her dress and has worn it more days than not since then.
Lillian had a magical time despite the fact that she was a bit grouchy. She didn't sleep well at all the week before the party and she was just getting over being sick. I hope the other kids enjoyed their time with Cinderella. We sure appreciate their help in celebrating Lillian's big day. I also want to thank my friend Susie for taking the time to be Cinderella. She did a phenomenal job and should really think about supplementing her income on the weekends by dressing up as Cinderella!
On Lillian's real birthday, March 26, (which she shares with her teeny tiny horse, Benjamin)
we all waited for her to emerge from her room so we could sing Happy Birthday.
She was surprised when she opened the door and found balloons!
We then had a delicious breakfast of Funfetti waffles and opened gifts.
That evening we went to see the new movie, Cinderella, with her friend, Sophie.
THEN,a few days later, we wrapped up all the birthday fun with our traditional trip to Dairy Queen with Papa and Grandma Jean.
Lillian's birthday is a day I both cherish and dread. I find myself looking forward to new adventures with her but I also mourn the loss of her babyhood. She is such a light in my life. I cherish every moment with her.
March 26 also marked Freya's 9 month birthday. I found myself getting a bit teary eyed watching her at Lillian's party because we will be celebrating her first birthday soon and I feel like she just got here!
Freya is a smiley, busy, little booger, always trying to pull herself up and walk. She can crawl (backwards) and gets herself into some precarious situations! This girl LOVES to eat. She doesn't like baby food but she likes everything else, especially popcorn and cake. The girl will literally have a melt down if there is cake in the room and she doesn't get any. Once you start giving her bites you better keep them coming fast if you don't want to hear her scream! Despite her love of cake, she only weighs 16 pounds. She is a light weight compared to her sister who weighed almost 20 pounds when she was 9 months! Her small body is practically bursting at the seams with personality though.
The last bit of fun in March came with the purchase of Ben, or The Suburban, Lillian's favorite ride. She begs to go for rides in this beast. I have no idea why but she prefers it to Bruce Wayne (the car) or Mona (the truck). She frequently asks her friends if they want a ride in The Suburban but they aren't as impressed with it as she is.
I would have sworn it was still February if not for Lillian's birthday! The month came and went in the blink of an eye. We are moving on to April now, the month of my birth. I wonder what will be in store for us this month!
