Temple Trip

I woke up Tuesday morning with the strong feeling that I needed to attend the temple. Things appeared to be working out when I received a phone call from the barn telling me the cranes had arrived to raise the roof to the indoor arena and riding did not appear to be safe. "Yes!" I thought. "I can go to the temple and perhaps make it back in time to get some Christmas decorating done!" Yeah right!

After getting all showered and dressed (which isn't easy when you have to try 10 things on before finding something that will button or zip), I got the impression that I should perhaps call the Mesa Temple to see if they were open. Thank goodness I did because they are closed until December 12th. No problem right? We now have the Gila River Temple that I can attend. Wrong! The Gila River Temple does not rent out clothing and no matter what tricks I tried, I could not get my temple dress zipped over my ever increasing bust line.

Frustrated to the point of tears I got on LDS.org to look at our ward directory to see if I could find a dress to borrow. The Internet stopped working. I stomped off down the street and started knocking on ward members' doors to see if they had a dress. Thankfully, I found one that fit.

I finally got on the road with my snacks, water bottles, and book on CD. As I was happily cruising along I-19, traffic came to a screeching halt. Up ahead, I saw a truck pulling a horse trailer slam on it's brakes, have 2 blow outs and jack knife across the freeway. Cars in front of me began skidding to a halt or swerving into the median. I hit my brakes only to realize I was not going to stop in time to avoid an accident. I tried to swerve to miss the car in front of me but my tires were locked and I was going no where but straight into someone else's bumper. The car stopped about an inch from the vehicle in front of me. I got out and saw chunks of my tread gone. I limped the car home, ready to scream. At that point I was determined to get to the temple NO MATTER WHAT! I hopped in the fuel-guzzling truck and took off like a mad woman in an attempt to make it to the 3:30 session. Despite it's rocky start, the day ended happily. I made it for my session safely and was able to see the lovely new Gila River Temple for the first time. I am so glad I did not let the obstacles of the day prevent me from finding some peace within the temple walls. I left feeling stronger and more hopeful than I have in a while.
As I was leaving the temple grounds and heading home, a woman was stopped on the side of the road with a dead battery. I pulled the truck up in front of her and together we got her car started. We must have been a comical sight. Two women in dresses with a very larger truck and a very small car. One of the women, the pregnant one, standing on the engine of the truck holding open the broken hood and the other trying to keep all the ends of the jumper cables from touching. It was a frustrating yet comical day.
