June was a month full of family time. Unfortunately, Josh is often working either at the fire station or trying to grow his business, Ladder Day Paints. This past month however, he took a break and joined us on our adventures. It was so nice to have him around to make memories with.
One of the first memories we made as a family was visiting Tucson's newly built LDS temple. The Latter Day Saints in Tucson have long awaited the day we would have a temple of our own. I hope some day my girls look back at the photos we took that day and understand what a special day it was.
After walking through the temple we stopped at Frost for some delicious gelato. I think this may become a Tucson temple tradition.
Just days after our temple visit we headed to San Diego for our annual beach trip with Papa and Grandma Jean. We spend 11 months out of the year looking forward to this vacation and it never disappoints. We spend our days on the beach in the sand and waves. Lillian loves the ocean, she always has. Josh has to go in the water with her because she scares me to death. Her lack of fear or any kind of caution for that matter, make me worry she is going to be swept out to sea.
Freya is a little more cautious. She likes to hang out on the beach and dig giant holes.
One day we took Freya over to the bay side to play. She liked the "little ocean" much better.
When we weren't on the beach we were riding bikes or scooters on the boardwalk,
flying kites,
riding rides at Belmont Park,
watching the sunset,
catching up on reading,
eating ice cream,
or spending time with Papa and Grandma Jean.
We added a new element of fun this year, an electric skateboard. When the boardwalk started to clear out in the evenings we would take turns cruising up and down. It was pretty fun. I think it may have started Josh on a new addiction.
It was hard to leave the cool salty air and return to sweltering heat. We were happy to see Oliver again though.
We didn't have to endure the heat long before we hit the road again for a weekend of camping with Josh's family. This time Oliver got to go with us. He proved to be a great road trip dog.
In the few days we were home between trips Josh built himself a mountain board. He used this trip to test it out before adding a motor to it. Now you know what I mean when I say he may have a new addiction!
I am pretty sure these two didn't sleep more than 3 hours the entire weekend. Despite being tired we had a fun time hiking around, playing in the river, building dams, and riding in Tata's Rzr.
We made it home just in time to celebrate Freya's third birthday. She requested a pink donut for her birthday breakfast and "lots of babies" as her birthday gift. We did our best to deliver. Later in the evening we went with Papa and Grandma Jean to see Cars 3.
The next day is when the real fun began.
Josh built a sprinkler and slip and slide for her birthday party. I threw in some water squirters, water balloons, a pinata, and Grandma Jean baked an amazing cake and Freya had the best party ever!
June had some record high temperatures so when we were home we did our best to stay cool. We spent a lot of time in the pool,
in the sprinklers,
in the mountains,
and just plain being silly in the water.
Lillian took swim lessons every day with the YMCA and loved it. She talked about it every day all day. She was in the intermediate class with much older kids and she excelled. I am really proud of her. Watching her made me wonder if maybe we have a swimmer on our hands.
After a whirl wind June full of fun we headed up to Utah for the month of July to visit Nona, Ppa, and Auntie Sam. I am sure more adventures await us there!
