Another Year Older and Wiser Too

We didn't waste any time getting ready for Easter. We got together and dyed Easter eggs TWICE this month because it is just so much fun!  This was the first year Lillian actually took her time and thought about how she wanted her eggs decorated.  Freya went through her eggs pretty quickly but liked watching them change each time she put them in a new color.

In our house lots of colorful eggs = many egg hunts.  One evening we met friends at the park and had an egg hunt.

Our second egg hunt was with kids from church. This being her second hunt of the year Freya was ready to get down to business. She didn't waste any time scooping up eggs and throwing them in her basket.
Lillian needed a little more help. Having to set down her basket every time she found an egg really slowed her down.  A giant rainbow arm cast will do that to a person.

Easter morning the girls followed a trail of bunny fur down the stairs where their giant Easter eggs and delicious bunny breakfast awaited them.

Then, dressed in our best, we attended church.  Unfortunately, Josh works almost all the holidays this year so he was not there to celebrate with us.

Fun with cousins and a yummy Italian meal *kind* of made up for his absence.
Our next big celebration of the month was my birthday. Lillian made me promise I wouldn't have any fun birthday celebrations while she was in preschool so we waited for her.  When she got out of school we headed to Starbucks for a unicorn drink

and then we got our nails done.

After that we had our traditional Breakfast at Tiffany's dinner at The Arizona Inn. I think Lillian may have been more excited for "Mom's fancy dinner" than I was.  She told me she wants to have a fancy dinner next time it is her birthday. The memories they will have of these birthday dinners warm my heart.   They love getting dressed up, running through the gardens, reading in the library, sitting on the fancy couches in the restroom, and washing their hands in the finger bowls at the end of the evening. These are all the same things I loved as a kid when I visited the inn.

Because I have such great friends, my birthday didn't end there. The next night we all got together for a game night and a few nights after that we had another birthday dinner, complete with cake and candles.
Thanks to friends and family it was another great birthday to celebrate another wonderful year on this earth.
The Pima County Fair rolls around each year during my birthday.  Last year we missed it. This year I was determined to go.  It was a fun night full of rides, animals, and fair food.  Freya was too short to go on any of the rides. Fortunately, she is cute and a few of the ride operators took pity on her.

Josh and I had one of the most fun date nights EVER the night we went out for pizza and roller skating.  I love to roller skate. It brings back good memories for me of times long past. I was worried roller skating may be a lost art but there were plenty of young folk there who could really skate!  We laughed so hard, took a few spills, and played tag. I almost forgot I'm not in elementary school any more.

One day after preschool Josh took the girls fishing.  They beg him all the time to go and talk non-stop about catching a fish.  Well, this was their lucky day!

When Josh helped them pull that fish out of the water they were mesmerized!
When it started flopping all around and Josh had to pull the hook out of it's mouth they realized catching a fish may not be as fun as they thought.
Oliver is an endless source of entertainment. The girls love to take him to the dog park, run with him, and find things for him to chew (other than their toys).  Several evenings a week we walk over to the dog park to play.  Freya has become a scootering machine and scooters around the perimeter of the park, often times with a pack of dogs behind her.

Our other pets keep us busy as well. I sometimes feel bad because while other kids are playing at their friend's house, going to museums, or hanging out at home, my kids are at the barn working. Well, maybe playing is a more accurate word.

Even with a broken arm Lillian helps me groom the horses.
Freya likes feeding the tortoises.  I think they like her too.  I laugh when I see them slowly making their way around their pen trying to follow her little voice as she runs around and plays.  I am not sure if they come to her looking for food, pets, or toes to nibble on but they sure like it when she visits with them.
Beauty often gets let out to wander the yard while the girls play.  She follows Papa around begging for potato chips.
Collecting eggs never loses its magic. They girls love finding green and brown eggs in the coop and they have no problem sticking their hands under chicken bums in search of newly laid treasure.

Gigi loves to see her girls. She is perhaps the sweetest horse on the planet.
Bachelor has shown a great deal of improvement over the last month.  He gets frisky in his stall and complains when I turn the other horses out but other than that he is doing well.
At the end of the month Lillian's cast was removed to reveal a crooked, skinny, dirty, little arm.

She has to wear a sling for two more weeks . We jazzed it up for her with some iron on patches, puffy paint, and jewels.  It is the coolest sling I have ever seen.  The glittering sling made up for the crooked arm in Lillian's book. I am still concerned though.

The hardest part of the month was registering Lillian for kindergarten.  She is excited. I am not.  I thought I had more time with her! Five years just isn't enough.
When I am feeling really sad I remind myself that Lillian's absence during the day will give me more time to spend with this little creature who insists on wearing her crowns backwards.
I am sure we will have a blast.
